Oakland Central (the neighborhoods from Downtown through KONO centered around Telegraph and Broadway) hosts a huge number of workers Monday through Friday. Oakland Central is growing quickly and has a lot to offer folks who support small business. We’ll share some of our favorite weekday activities in Oakland Central with you in this post.
Morning Coffee
We’re lucky to work in the Pandora building, so our favorite coffee place is the closest: The Octopus Literary Salon. They have great coffee, a daily quiche (vege options always available), and pastries. This is a great place to get your day started.
Break
Take a walk over to Frank Ogawa and visit Laurel Book Store. They have an incredible selection of books, and they also offer ebooks and audiobooks for sale on their website. They also feature books that celebrate Oakland and the Bay Area, which may be the lunchtime read you’re looking for. They also have greeting cards, mugs, coloring books, and other items to supplement your office experience. You may also want to attend one of their many evening events and meet featured authors.
Lunch
For a quick, delicious lunch try Aburaya Japanese Fried Chicken. You order right at the counter, so Aburaya is also perfect for groups. Aburaya also has faux chicken options for those who prefer a vegetarian option. Core Kitchen also offers a fast-casual option and all of their dishes are vegan (and delicious!). Core Kitchen’s Thai Zucchini Bowl is a hearty and energizing option.
Grab a Haircut
Barber Tim Piper & Company offers sharp haircuts and exemplary customer service. Located inside Oakland City Center, it’s a perfect location to pop-in and be on with your day.
After Work Fitness
Sign up for one of Barefoot Movement’s many yoga classes. They offer single rate and class packages, as well as monthly and annual memberships. If you’re looking for prenatal yoga, you can find workshops at Barefoot Movement!
Post Yoga Cocktail
Mockingbird’s full bar is amazing for happy hour, and their dinner menu is spectacular. Grab a table or sit at the bar and enjoy the delicious options available.
