Established in 2001, the popular Laurel Book Store is a great escape for the avid reader. The store opened in the Laurel District before it moved to Downtown in the Frank H. Ogawa Plaza in October 2014. They brought their cozy neighborhood vibe with them, welcoming all visitors with a warm and inviting smile.

Laurel Book Store offers a wide variety of genres. They carry a little bit of everything to ensure that each customer can find something that interests them. They even offer audio books! However, the store is much more than just books. Laurel Book Store has become a gathering place in Oakland to listen, discuss, and learn about a variety of topics. They ask thoughtful questions to determine what you like and don’t like in order to help find the perfect book for you. They offer new and used books, and they are happy to order any book that they don’t have in stock. This even includes text books! They also have an easy system that allows you to order online and have the books shipped to your home. Instead of ordering from a conglomerate like Amazon, keep your money in the community and shop at this locally owned store.

During the week, parking is limited to metered street and paid garage parking. Parking is free on Saturdays at the Clay Street Garage, located at the back of City Hall between 14th and 15th Streets. 12th St BART is a block away and there are several AC Transit lines that stop near by.
