SLATE Art is a full service art agency located in the Arts + Garage District in Uptown Oakland. Their gallery, SLATE contemporary, showcases contemporary fine art. Exhibitions are based on a specific theme, and showcase between two and four artists at a time, running for eight weeks. Openings, which are typically scheduled to coincide with Oakland Art Murmur’s First Friday Art Walk, include artist talks, where the artists can engage with visitors and discuss their inspiration and intention behind their work.

SLATE also curates rotating monthly exhibits in the front of the hall outside the main gallery space, selecting work from the gallery inventory to show a broader range of styles. SLATE contemporary represents 40 highly sought-after artists, many of whom are located in the Bay Area. While SLATE focuses on wall art, media are varied, including painting, collage, photography, and sculptural installations.

SLATE Art also offers consulting services for business and residential collectors. They employ an entire team that is trained to seek out the perfect piece to add to your art collection. The team can source art in all media and styles, and can accommodate a variety of budgets. They have access artists all over the country, ranging from emerging to well-established artists. The team is highly-skilled, with decades of experience in fine art and design. They also offer on-site consultations to ensure that the art selected will be a cohesive addition to the space. While some team members specialize in private residential interiors, others focus on commercial and public settings including lobbies, offices, hospitality, and healthcare environments.

The gallery is open to visitors Monday through Saturday. SLATE Art is involved with Oakland Art Murmur, so are open every First Friday until 9:00 PM. They also participate in the weekly Saturday Stroll, when most of Oakland’s galleries are open from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
