Mercury 20 Gallery is an artist-run art gallery that has been in operation since 2006. They have been in their current space in the Arts + Garage District of Uptown Oakland since 2013.
The gallery consists of 20 artists that exhibit their work on a six week rotation. Typically two or three artists are exhibited at a time. Once or twice a year, the gallery presents a group show featuring all the members. Learn more about future exhibits.
The beauty of an artist-run gallery is that you are given a more intimate experience because the artist who created the work also curates it. This allows you to get a more in-depth understanding of the artists, their creative process, and the inspirations behind their work.
The gallery is open Thursday through Saturday, and they also participate in both Oakland Art Murmur’s First Friday events and their weekly event, Saturday Stroll. First Friday and Saturday Strolls tend to be bustling with locals and visitors. If you prefer a less crowded, more one-on-one experience, pop in on Thursday or Friday during their regular hours. There is always a member available to help you.
Periodically, the gallery will accept new members. If you are an artist interested in becoming a member, learn how to apply here. All mediums are considered including painting, photography, sculpture, and video installation.
Parking in this neighborhood can be difficult. Riding your bike or taking public transportation are the recommended modes of transportation. If you are unable to find street parking in the area, you can find garage or lot parking here.
