Galeria Beso Maya is an art gallery that features work from up and coming and established artists. The mission of Galeria Beso Maya is to create a community of new and established people of color (POC) artists. Yadira Cazares, who is one of the owners of the gallery, aspired to build a space in a working-class neighborhood where people could appreciate art after normal business hours. She is also passionate about educating art lovers about the value of POC artists’ work. The work of POC artists is often undervalued, and collectors are more likely to haggle prices with an artist who is a POC.
Galeria Beso Maya offers several classes and events including yoga, guitar lessons, and paint lessons. Yadira’s paint & sip events are very popular. These are a great opportunity to wind down with a fun group of people. Enjoy a glass of wine and let your creative juices flow with paint and a blank canvas. She also hosts team-building workshops, art therapy workshops, and private paint parties. Private parties can be tailored to adults or children in English or Spanish. Each paint event includes materials, always including non-toxic paint. A full list of classes can be found at the bottom of this page.
Yadira is a figurative surreal artist and works mostly with acrylics and oils. She graduated from the California College of the Arts, Oakland in 2005. Her warmth and bright energy are contagious, and she is great at getting people excited about art. She has helped curate many art shows that feature POC artists, sometimes working with artists for up to a year to help them put together a cohesive exhibit. If you are interested in showing your artwork, contact Yadira at galeriabesomaya@gmail.com.
