Wooden Table Cafe

Wooden Tabel Cafe is an LGBTQ, woman, and minority-owned and-operated cafe located in Uptown Oakland.

Co-owner, Andreas Ozzuna, is an Argentina native who moved to the United States in 1998. Longing for the taste of home, Andreas started Wooden Table Baking Co. in 2011 using their grandmother’s recipes for alfajores, conitos, and bonbons. The bakery focuses on wholesale orders and catering orders for events like weddings, corporate events, and parties. In November of 2017, the owners opened the cafe, which has been a popular stop for lovers of alfajores and Yerba Maté ever since.

Alfajores are Argentinian cookies that are filled with creamy dulce de leche. The cafe carries around 11 flavors, including a gluten-free option, that rotate periodically. Conitos are chocolate cookies topped with a large serving of dulce de leche and dipped in chocolate. All baked goods are small batch and made with non-GMO ingredients. For a fully immersive experience, enjoy your sweets with some Yerba Maté!

Dine-in Yerba Mate orders are served in Argentina’s traditional communal way. Maté is served inside of a traditional serving cup with a kettle of hot water on the side. Traditionally, each individual in the group enjoys a serving from the same cup. The cup is refilled with water after each individual finished their serving, then handed to the next member. A heart-shaped cookie is placed between the kettle and cup to be enjoyed with the tea.

Along with tasty sweets and Yerba Maté, Wooden Table Cafe serves empanadas and coffee drinks. You will even find a variety of Argentinian gifts and accessories including handbags that are made by Andreas’ mother!
