Sweetheart Cafe & Tea

Milk tea cafe that also serves a variety of hot, cold, and prepackaged snacks.

Sweetheart Cafe & Tea has been a long-time favorite since its opening in 1996 near the heart of Oakland’s Chinatown. They offer a variety of classic street snacks, such as popcorn chicken, fried calamari, spring rolls, and curry fish balls, among other delicious items. They also have a huge menu of drinks and desserts such as bubble milk tea, slushies, sagos, ice cream, and smoothies.

Along with these items, they also carry packaged Asian snacks such as Pocky and Yanyan, plus tea leaves, mochi, chips, and candies. They also sell a few toys for kids and calligraphy sets.

In addition to the items they carry, Sweetheart Cafe is also an award recipient from Beautify Oakland Chinatown. Regulars are usually students from nearby Oakland schools, office workers from nearby buildings, and families needing refreshments after strolling around Chinatown.

Sweetheart Cafe offers many cool discounts to their customers, including a $0.75 off combo discount if you buy a snack and a drink at the same time. They also have discounts for Pokemon Go players, along with a 5% discount if you pay with cash. They offer stamp cards as well, so once you acquire enough stamps from them, you’re able to redeem a free drink!

They have indoor seating available for over 20 people at a time, and street parking is available. They’re open seven days a week, from 10AM-6:30PM every day except Sunday, when they close a bit earlier at 6PM. Check out their locations in San Francisco and Berkeley as well if you’re in the area!

This business speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.
