New Tin’s Market

Chinese grocery store stocking fresh-cut and cured meats, seafood, fresh produce, Asian snacks, and ethnic foods.

Located in the heart of Oakland Chinatown, New Tin’s Market is a bustling Chinese market for Asian groceries. Opened in 2002, New Tin’s stocks a great selection of fresh produce, meats, seafood, and ingredients commonly used in Asian cuisines.

In front of the market is an open-air produce section, where you are greeted with a delightful display of fresh vegetables, fruits, and mushrooms. Here you can pick up hard-to-find vegetables used in Asian dishes, including fresh bamboo shoots, lotus roots, and arrowhead roots, as well as rare tropical fruits such as longan, dragon fruit, papaya, and durian.

Inside the market you can find aisles of popular Asian snacks and drinks like Taiwanese pineapple shortcakes, preserved plums, shrimp chips, and Vita lemon teas. The prepared food section offers various Cantonese BBQ meats such as Char Siu and roasted duck. If you prefer to cook by yourself, you’re also in the right place because New Tin’s carries a comprehensive list of Asian spices, sauces, pastes, and condiments that are usually hard to find in chain grocery stores. Their meat counter features a thin meat slicer, which is good news for hot pot lovers.

New Tin’s has its own free on-site parking lot, so you can drop by anytime without worrying about finding street parking. If you prefer public transport, the Lake Merritt BART Station is just 3 blocks away. If you plan to visit New Tin’s market, do keep in mind that 10 am to 2 pm are their popular times, and they have a $5 minimum for credit card purchases.
