Mom’s Bun Mi

Vietnamese sandwich shop that serves toasted banh mi sandwiches, rice plates, and smoothies.

Mom’s Bun Mi is a Vietnamese sandwich shop located in a small shopping center on 14th Ave and International. They serve a variety of banh mi sandwiches and Vietnamese rice plates in a casual setting. They also offer a variety of fruit smoothies, and milkshakes.

Mom’s Bun Mi got its start in San Francisco, where the restaurant quickly became very popular for friendly customer service and for making amazing sandwiches. In 2016, the restaurant moved to its current location in the San Antonio District of Oakland, and locals are ecstatic that they did. Unlike traditional banh mi sandwiches, which consist of a lightly toasted Vietnamese baguette filled with your choice of protein, pickled radishes and carrots, cilantro, cucumber, and aioli, Mom’s Bun Mi adds grilled onions to the sandwich to give it an explosion of flavor. If you want to be truly decadent, add pork pate or a fried egg for a small additional fee. Make sure to grab one of their stamp cards when you order a sandwich. You get one stamp for each Vietnamese sandwich purchased, and once you’ve purchased ten, your next sandwich is free!

If you are not in the mood for a sandwich, they serve a lemongrass beef rice plate with or without a fried egg. Rice plates are well portioned, and sure to hit the spot. For a lighter fix, try their delicious spring rolls. Don’t forget to soothe your sweet tooth with one of their decadent milkshakes. Flavors include Oreo cookie, while mocha, and caramel mocha.

Another great thing about Mom’s Bun Mi is that they accept all major credit cards! Gone are the days of having to stop at an ATM to enjoy authentic banh mi. Free parking is also easy to find inside of the shopping center. With so much convenience, you will fill your stamp card, and get a free sandwich in no time!
