Mockingbird is the “home away from home” culinary experience. The owners, Melissa Axelrod and William Johnson, bring a wealth of culinary expertise to Downtown Oakland. They serve thoughtfully executed dishes made with locally sourced ingredients and love, just like they would serve their own family.

Your satisfaction is the staff’s top priority, and they show this through their attentive service. There is minimal décor, dim lighting, and warm wooden tables which help set the mood for a relaxing and memorable dining experience.

The restaurant serves upscale modern American cuisine that is seasonally inspired. One of the most popular items is the Steak Frites which includes hanger steak with house fries and greens. Don’t forget to try one of their desserts! The bread pudding is their signature dessert item, and diners rave about it on social media.

In addition to serving delicious food, Mockingbird offers a wonderful selection of wines, beers, and signature cocktails. Mockingbird is conveniently close to many transit systems including 12th St BART and a variety of AC Transit bus lines that stop at 12th and Broadway. Parking in the neighborhood can be challenging, but metered street parking is available on 13th St and nearby cross streets. There is also garage parking at 420 13th St.
