Don Ellis Liquor, a.k.a. Luster Liquor, has been operating in Oakland’s Elmhurst district since the 1970s. For decades, Luster Liquor was not only the place to pick up your favorite libations in East Oakland, but also a popular grocery and deli. Robert Luster has been the owner of this shop from the beginning. His time here has made him extremely knowledgeable on the history of deep East Oakland, especially black-owned businesses in the neighborhood.
Luster no longer operates as a grocery store and deli but does offer a fine selection of spirits at all price points. The shop also has a good selection of domestic beer and malt liquor. Mr. Luster runs a tight ship, offering beer and spirits that meet the tastes of the changing neighborhood.
