Located right on the edge of Oakland Chinatown, Luckyduck Bicycle Café is a mixed-use space that combines a coffee shop with a bicycle shop, American café, and beer bar. Despite having bicycle in its name, Luckyduck isn’t just a destination for cyclists, but also a community social hub for people outside the biking community.
Luckyduck was born in 2016 when owners Aaron Wacks and Jimmy Ryan decided to create a neighborhood center with the mission of promoting cycling in an urban environment and beyond. The symbiosis between the indoor bike repair & retail unit and the café provides the bike shop with a relaxed atmosphere while adding an extra layer of utilitarian dimension to the dining and drinking space.
The bike shop offers a full range of repair services as well as a selection of mountain, road, touring, and cyclocross (CX) models for sale. You can reserve a bicycle or frame online with a 10% deposit. The café menu features breakfast items, sandwiches, soups, and salads, with a wide selection of vegan and vegetarian options. The café serves coffee and espresso drinks with beans from Oakland-based Red Bay Coffee Roastery and teas from Blue Willow Tea in Berkeley, along with a rotating selection of beers on tap from local breweries.
Besides the weekly Saturday morning community bike rides led by shop staff, Luckyduck also uses its space to host a variety of events, including private parties, yoga classes, live music shows, movie nights, and arts & crafts fairs. You can keep up with their latest classes, workshops, and events on their Facebook page.
Located at 12th and Harrison, Luckyduck is just 3 blocks away from 12th St / Oakland City Center Bart station. Street parking is also available. The open and airy space with free WiFi is great for group gatherings as well as individual study/work sessions.
