James & the Giant Cupcake

An innovative selection of mini and regular sized cupcakes.

James & the Giant Cupcake is a woman-owned and-run bake shop. They offer a creative selection of gourmet cupcakes. The first shop opened in North Oakland’s Golden Gate district in July of 2011. Thanks to the community’s support, a second shop opened in Downtown Oakland in May 2015, and a third location will open in Jack London Square in 2019!

Known as Oakland’s favorite cupcake shop for the last eight years, owners Eurydice and Kailey make sure to keep their loyal fans on their toes by coming up with innovative and delicious new creations seasonally. Of course, they are sure to always offer their most popular flavors such as Red Velvet and Sea Salt Caramel. They strive to include all cupcake lovers when updating their menu, and always offer at least two gluten-free and vegan choices. View their menu to see what they’re currently offering.

Cupcakes come in two sizes, regular and mini. So whether you’re looking to satisfy a small sweet craving or to treat yourself to a super moist gourmet dessert, James & the Giant Cupcake has something for you. They also make cakes for special occasions such as weddings and birthdays!

Visitors can expect a wonderful experience when entering the shop. The staff is warm, friendly, and always ready to answer any questions. Along with your cupcakes, you can pick up accessories such as birthday cards, candles, etc. They invite their customers to join their rewards program, in which you are offered a free full-sized cupcake after five visits!

They have limited indoor seating so you can enjoy your cupcake with a cup of Rhetoric coffee while socializing with a friend or reading a great book. The Downtown location is a short walk away from 19th Street BART, as well as several AC Transit lines. While metered street parking can be found near the shop, it is often difficult to come by, so alternative modes of transportation are recommended.
