Located in Oakland, California – the Golden Gate Atelier offers classical training for the professional realist artist. Our curriculum, based on the atelier methods of 19th century France, is devoted to a disciplined study of the human figure. Our program consists of a step-by-step progression. We begin by copying master drawings and making studies from Classical and Renaissance sculpture. Then we apply this knowledge to portraiture and figurative work. We offer a thorough grounding in Artistic Anatomy, Constructive Drawing, Memory Training, and Composition. This program is open to everyone, from beginners to advanced.
