DeLauer’s Super News Stand

Magazine shop and convenience store that has been operating in Oakland for over 100 years.

DeLauer’s Super News Stand has withstood the test of time and technology by offering a great source for news for over 100 years. It is an Oakland landmark, and it is a heartwarming reminder of Oakland’s rich history.

Opening its doors in 1907, DeLauer’s was the go-to location to find a wide selection of magazines, periodicals, and books for information hungry Oaklanders. The business was passed down from father to son, and remained family owned until 2008, when Fasil Lemma, a longtime clerk of DeLauer’s, purchased the shop.

Today’s DeLauer’s is not quite the store that it once was. The store is no longer open 24 hours, and the content has changed with tastes. However, you are sure to find something that will catch your eye.

They should be one of the first places you check for limited and special edition magazines in Oakland. Along with magazines and books, you can find an assortment of beverages, snacks, and candy. They also offer BART Clipper cards, lottery tickets, cigars and cigarettes.

This Oakland treasure is conveniently located in front of the 12th Street BART entrance. Pop in to grab reading material for your commute.
