Crooked City Cider

Craft cider brewery and bar that serves delicious dry ciders that are unfiltered, raw, vegan, and gluten-free.

Crooked City Cider is a woman owned and operated business that creates and distributes wonderfully crisp and dry craft ciders in Oakland. Dana is the owner and brewer of these delicious ciders.

The name Crooked City Cider is a nod to Dana’s great uncles John and Peter Bushouse, who ran an illegal business producing and distributing moonshine during the prohibition era. In time, the law caught up with the Bushouse brothers, and their crooked business came to an end. Dana re-imagined and revitalized the “family business” in 2014, by experimenting with cider recipes in her basement. Today, Dana’s brews can be found at a handful of beer gardens and restaurants throughout Oakland, as well as her very own space in Jack London Square.

All ciders are created from fresh pressed juice and is never filtered or sweetened. They are also gluten-free, unfiltered, unpasteurized, raw, living, vegan, and without added sulfates. Currently, there are four cold cider options: Straight Up Oakland Dry is a classic brew that contains only apple juice and yeast. Ginger Bomb has a distinct spicy kick, and is a treat for all ginger lovers. Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop is the most refreshing cider option. Raspberries are fermented with the cider, giving the beverage a slight sweetness and a light pink hue. Hella Hip Hopped is cider infused with hops. It gives off a bright, citrusy aroma without the bitterness associated with hoppy beers. They also offer a hot cider with brandy–think warm apple pie with a brandy caramel syrup. It’s exactly what you need to warm up during the winter months!

Not sure which cider to try first? Order the flight, and sample all that Crooked City has to offer. Full glasses can be ordered by the pint. You can also bring your favorite cider home with you in a 32-ounce Growlette, or a 64-ounce Growler.

This space happily allows dogs on the premise, so bring your four-legged friend while you sip on some truly exceptional cider.
