Oakland has so many inspiring local small businesses that provide important goods and services to our community in the Bay Area. It’s pertinent that we support these small businesses in order to support our local economy. Below, we’ve mentioned several of the amazing businesses in the Fruitvale district that you definitely should visit. Have fun exploring the Town!
Morning Coffee
Start your morning off right! Come order freshly baked pan dulces, empanadas, or a warm espresso at Hasta Muerte Coffee, a place serving the Fruitvale community as both a coffee shop and bookstore. They are a community-oriented shop, and have unique murals along with a kids corner in store. Check them out, you won’t be disappointed!
Shopping
After some morning coffee, be sure to make a stop at Milagros de Mexico! Open 7 days a week, they are a retail store that aims to improve the health and wellness of the local community by offering both U.S. and Latinx brands. They boast 5 stars on Yelp, and also are loved by locals for their amazingly efficient service from doctors and physician assistants. Their prices are also reasonable and affordable, and staff are known to be friendly and helpful. Be sure to pay them a visit the next time you find yourself in Fruitvale – this place is a hidden gem for sure.
Beauty Stop
Mariely Beauty Salon is a one-stop shop for all your beauty needs! They offer hair styling services for women, men, and children. On top of that, they also do hair color correction, nails, makeup, and more – all at affordable prices. They’re open every day, but have different hours so be sure to check their Yelp page or call before you go.
Lunch
Reem’s brings pieces of Middle Eastern culture to the Fruitvale district with hospitality and comfort food. Not only that, they also serve delicious beverages here, like their famous coffee with cardamom! Their store mission is to uplift the community by hiring local and also sourcing from local farms. You definitely won’t regret making a stop at this eatery on E 12th!

Along with these, they also offer sides such as baked beans, collard greens, and more. But remember to save some room for dessert!
