Thanh Thuy Deli is a Vietnamese sandwich shop that serves all of your favorite banh mi sandwiches.
Banh mi is the Vietnamese word for bread, and it is a lighter and airier version of the French baguette. It is made with both rice and wheat flour. Thanh Thuy Deli offers fresh toasted banh mi that is filled with Vietnamese staples such as grilled pork, fish cakes, sardines, fried egg, and ham and head cheese. Each sandwich is topped with pickled carrots and white radishes, as well as fresh cucumber, cilantro and jalapenos.
At this restaurant, you will also find Vietnamese style coffee. Café De is their classic black coffee. This coffee is a perfect after lunch re-energizer. Café De is generally made from a coffee bean variety grown in Vietnam. These beans are dark roasted, and then brewed in a traditional metal Vietnamese drip filter. You can also try their Café Sue, which is their black coffee with sweetened condensed milk. Both drinks can be served Da, which means iced, or Nong, which means hot.
Fresh squeezed orange juice and lemonade, as well as fresh fruit smoothies are also offered at Than Thuy Deli. Fruit smoothies include refreshing flavors such as avocado, pineapple, watermelon, strawberry, and honeydew. They also have coffee and Thai tea flavored smoothies. You can order smoothies with or without tapioca pearls, also known as boba.
Than Thuy Deli is located inside of a little strip mall on the corner of 8th Ave and East 12th St in the East Lake District of Oakland. Lot parking is available in front of the establishment. This restaurant is best for take-out orders, but there is limited indoor and outdoor seating available for those who would like to eat in. Orders are taken at the counter, and the only payment method that they accept is cash. The closest ATM is inside of Jackson’s Liquors, located right around the corner on East 12th St.
