Doreen Meister is a licensed marriage and family psychotherapist who practices at Dahlia Therapy Center. Dahlia Therapy Center is a collective of 14 independent licensed psychotherapists and social workers. They practice in a beautiful Victorian building located in the Pill Hill district of Oakland. Inside the warmth from the wood paneling, along with the tasteful décor creates an inviting and relaxed atmosphere for clients.

Doreen practices transformational psychotherapy and focuses on couples and individual therapy. She has specific training in Existential Contemplative Psychotherapy and Expressive Arts. She utilizes a variety of techniques that promote creativity, mindfulness, and resolution. Doreen’s therapeutic approach involves paying close, compassionate attention to the present moment experience of the body sensations, thoughts and emotions. She focuses on helping individuals and couples deal with life transitions, anxiety, depression, early childhood trauma, loss and/or grief, addictive tendencies, and communication. In addition she offers somatic touch to help build regulation and resilience.

Because there are times when verbal expression is difficult, Doreen uses non-verbal approaches that involve creative expression to help shed light and understand aspects of experience in the unconscious. She offers a Finding Balance in Transition workshop. It is an 8 week women’s group that uses expressive arts to help women who are going through life changes to explore the process of transition. You can learn more about the group here.

Metered parking is available directly in front of Dahlia Therapy Center. The building is also along the route of the Sutter Shuttle, which picks up and drops off at MacArthur BART. There are two entrances to the building. One that shares a porch with Montclair Physical therapy on the corner of 34th and Elm, and one stand alone entrance on Elm Street which is the main entrance. Please call in advance to learn more and make an appointment.
